Disruption to GWR rail services on Sunday 23rd June and Sunday 30th June

It has come to our attention that Great Western Railway (GWR) has scheduled rail maintenance works on Sunday 23rd June and Sunday 30th June 2019. This will affect passengers joining our tours by train from London or Oxford, and will delay the pick-up times for all passengers joining our tour that day. Please read on to find out how this will affect you.

What’s happening?

From time to time, the rail companies close all or part of a rail line to complete essential maintenance work. These closures usually take place at the weekends when there are fewer commuter passengers.

On Sunday 23rd June and Sunday 30th June, the rail line between Oxford and Hanborough is closed for maintenance. Journeys between Oxford and Hanborough will be provided by a rail replacement bus service, affecting the normal timetable.

I’m travelling to/from London – what should I do?

The train departing from London Paddington station at 08.08am usually goes directly to Moreton-in-Marsh, via Oxford, and arrives at 9.53am.

However, on Sunday 23rd June and Sunday 30th June ONLY, passengers from London should:

  • Board the train at London Paddington station 08.08am.
  • Get off the train at Oxford and board a rail replacement bus to Hanborough at 9.25am – staff at Oxford station will be able to tell you where you need to go. The bus arrives at Hanborough station at 9.47am.
  • Get off the bus at Hanborough and board a train to Moreton-in-Marsh at 9.57am – again, staff at Hanborough will be able to tell you where to go. The train arrives at Moreton-in-Marsh at the later-than-usual time of 10.21am
  • On these dates only, the Go Cotswolds tour will depart from Moreton-in-Marsh station at 10.25am.

There is no planned disruption to rail services in the evening, so trains returning to London on these dates are running as usual. However, since the start time of our tour will be delayed, we plan to return to Moreton-in-Marsh by 17.30 (instead of 17.00).

Therefore, the first train back to London that you would be able to take is at 18.16.

I’m travelling to/from Oxford – what should I do?

The train departing from Oxford at 9.16am usually travels directly to Moreton-in-Marsh, arriving at 9.53am.

However, on Sunday 23rd June and Sunday 30th June ONLY, passengers travelling from Oxford should:

  • Take the rail replacement bus from Oxford station at 9.25am (staff at the station will be able to tell you where to get the bus) and travel to Hanborough.
  • The bus arrives at Hanborough at 9.47am. Get off the bus and board the 9.57am train to Moreton-in-Marsh – again, staff at Hanborough will be able to tell you where you need to go. This train arrives at Moreton-in-Marsh at the later-than-usual time of 10.21am
  • On these dates only, the Go Cotswolds tour will depart from Moreton-in-Marsh station at 10.25am.

There is no planned disruption to rail services in the evening, so trains returning to Oxford on these dates are running as usual. However, since the start time of our tour will be delayed, we plan to return to Moreton-in-Marsh at 17.30 (instead of 17.00).

Therefore, the first train back to Oxford that you would be able to take is at 18.16.
