Joining a Go Cotswolds tour from Oxford

Joining us on a tour of the Cotswolds from Oxford is a simple process that many of our guests choose to do!

Oxford is a beautiful, historic, University city and a great base for exploring. A Cotswolds Day Tour is one of the many things you can do during your stay in Oxford and makes for a refreshing day away from city life.

Our Cotswolds Day Tour operates on Wednesdays, Thursdays*, Fridays and Sundays and to join us on a tour of the Cotswolds from Oxford all you have to do is take the train to our departure point at Moreton-in-Marsh station. Return train travel to Moreton-in-Marsh from Oxford is only £10 and takes less than 40-minutes!

The train is a safe and comfortable way to reach our departure point and by taking the train your tour begins in the Cotswolds – enabling you to spend more of your day there. You will also get avoid the Oxford city traffic and appreciate the scenery from the train window as it winds its way from Oxford through Hanborugh, Charlbury, Shipton and Kingham to the the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Departure times from Moreton-in-Marsh station:
09.45am (Weekdays)
10.00am (Sundays)

The trains we recommend to catch to join us on a tour of the Cotswolds from Oxford are as follows (train times accurate as of January 2018): 

From Oxford:

Catch the 8.51am train from Oxford to Moreton-in-Marsh arriving at 9.25am.

Catch the 9.15am train from Oxford to Moreton-in-Marsh arriving at 9.54am.

When travelling from Oxford you can buy the Cotswolds Discoverer One Day Pass – valid on all trains after 8.50am – which gives you return travel from Oxford to Moreton-in-Marsh for £10pp (adults) and £5pp (children). This can be purchased either in advance or on the day of travel. Further information about this ticket can also be found on the National Rail Enquiries website here: or by calling 03457 48 49 50. 

The time of your return train back to Oxford depends on how the tour goes throughout the day but we always expect to be back at Moreton-in-Marsh station by 5.00pm. If you purchase the Cotswolds Discoverer ticket you’ll be permitted to travel on any return train (trains operate at least every hour – even on Sundays) so you could even prolong your stay in the Cotswolds after the tour by stopping for dinner in Moreton-in-Marsh!

Please note:

  1. Tours start once our final customer has boarded (this is usually at Moreton-in-Marsh station).
  2. All pick-ups are on request and confirmed at time of booking. Prior booking is essential.
  3. It’s imperative to check train times before you travel as schedules are subject to change. Especially due to engineering works which can happen at certain times throughout the year – particularly on Sundays. We want as many people to experience the Cotswolds with us as possible (and we’ll always make every effort for our customers to do so!) but please note that it is your responsibility to arrange travel plans in order to reach the departure point in good time. Go Cotswolds cannot refund tickets or provide compensation for any expenses incurred if a pick-up time is missed due to missed, delayed or cancelled trains.     I’m bookmarking this since we hope to base our stay in Oxford on our next visit to avoid renting a car. Very good and useful information. The last time we visited England we based part of our trip in Cotswolds and took the train from Moreton-in-Marsh to Oxford so we know how easy it is.
