Discover the Rollright Stones on a Secret Cotswolds tour

Did you know there’s a site in the Cotswolds that’s thought to be even older than Stonehenge?

It’s true! Just a stone’s throw (pun intended!) from the charming Cotswold villages we love, The Rollright Stones is one of Britain’s most mysterious and magical prehistoric sites. This atmospheric ancient monument is made up of three elements. There’s the King’s Men stone circle, The King Stone, and The Whispering Knights.

Legend of the Rollright Stones

Discover the Cotswolds’ Own Stone Circle - The Rollright Stones from the air.

Local legend says the stones are a king and his knights, frozen forever by a witch’s curse.

Some people say it’s impossible to count the same number of stones twice, and if you do, you’ll receive your heart’s desire.

Many others believe the stones hold deep spiritual energy. Often our visitors report a special “buzz” in the air. This is especially common on auspicious occasions like the recent summer solstice, when over 200 people gathered at sunrise!

The Rollright Stones is a popular site for ‘dowsing’, where you can use rods or pendulums to detect earth energies. As a popular stop on our wonderful Secret Cotswolds tour, some of our tour guests – and guides – get involved!

However, even the sceptics among us can appreciate the history, archaeology and magnificent countryside views at this lovely ancient site.

Have you Discovered the Rollright Stones?

This helps The Rollright Trust to fund the upkeep of this beautiful and historic place. The fee is collected via an honesty box – but sadly, not everyone is as honest as they should be!

Here at Go Cotswolds, we believe in doing the right thing. So, we make a donation on your behalf for every visitor we bring. (We have an arrangement with The Rollright Trust to pay by bank transfer on a monthly basis, in case you wonder why our guides don’t put coins in the box!)

That way, you can enjoy the stones knowing you’re helping to preserve them for generations to come.
