On our Cotswolds Day Tours, we spend around 40 minutes in the picturesque village of Bourton-on-the-Water. This is plenty of time to take a stroll around the village, grab a coffee if you like, and take lots of photos of the pretty river running through the centre of the village and its five Cotswold stone foot-bridges.
Bourton-on-the-Water has lots more to offer though, so if you wish to stay longer in Bourton-on-the-Water and join our tour from there, here is everything you should need to know…
On Wednesdays, Thursdays*, Fridays and Saturdays*:
Because of the route our tour takes, we are not able to pick you up from Bourton-on-the-Water. Therefore, we recommend you:
- Take the 801 bus (operated by Pulhams) from the bus stop near to Edinburgh Woollen Mill (a shop on High Street, Bourton-on-the-Water). This bus leaves Bourton-on-the-Water at 08.30 and arrives at Moreton-in-Marsh rail station at 08.57.
- The tour departs from Moreton-in-Marsh rail station at 09.45 at the latest.
Alternatively, you could take a taxi from Bourton-on-the-Water. We recommend you book a taxi in advance – your hotel or the Visitor Information Centre on Victoria Street in Bourton-on-the-Water should be able to help you with this.
* Thursday and Saturday tours operate between May and September only
- Bus 801 does not operate on Sundays.
- Therefore, to join our tour you will need to drive/take a taxi to Moreton-in-Marsh station. The journey time is approximately 25 minutes.
- On Sundays, the tour departs from Moreton-in-Marsh rail station at 10.00 at the latest.
Returning to Bourton-on-the-Water
Since Bourton-on-the-Water is the last stop on our tour, we can leave you there at the end of the tour. We get to Bourton-on-the-Water at approximately 15.30.
We can also drop you off at one of our other free drop-off points (Moreton-in-Marsh station, 17.00; Stratford-upon-Avon, 17.30; or Leamington Spa – Sundays only, 18.15) if you prefer. It’s no problem if you have luggage – we have a large luggage storage space on our minibus, so you can bring it with you!
These times are usually the latest times we will return to these locations. In case of heavy traffic or other unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, we can never 100% guarantee to be back on time, but it’s not usually a problem.
Bus times and fares
The timetable for the 801 bus can be downloaded here.
In our experience, bus timetables in our area can be less precise than trains because of traffic, roadworks and other possible delays. Therefore, we recommend you arrive at the departure bus stop well before the scheduled departure time.
Apart from weekly, monthly or annual travel passes, bus tickets cannot be bought in advance – just pay the bus driver using cash. It is usually much cheaper to buy a return ticket (there and back) than two single (one-way) tickets.
